About me
Erica Deane is the Academic Technology Director at Highland School. She is also a classroom veteran with 20 years of experience teaching Science, Math, Technology, and Spanish. Erica holds a Master's degree in Administration and Supervision through UVA and is a VA-licensed Administrator. She graduated with a BS in Chemistry and a Math Minor from Lynchburg College (University of Lynchburg) in Virginia. Her teaching career started in Shenandoah County Public School System, where she taught 7th Grade Math for seven years. She loves students and teaching, not just the content, but the whole child. She transitioned to teaching 5th and 8th Grade Science and Grades 5-8 Technology at Highland School in Warrenton, VA, and believes that it has been one of the best decisions she has made. Her students think critically, creatively, and have time to really learn and interact with the material. Erica believes in hands-on, exciting, and accessible learning for all students. Continuing to learn and grow is at the core of her personal beliefs. She has had the pleasure of attending many professional development programs from places such as the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, various technology conferences, and a Project Zero course on Creating Cultures of Thinking. She loves spending her free time with her husband and son. She is an avid reader and loves inspiring her students to find books they love.
