How can educators harness the power of AI while preserving the critical thinking, inquiry, and source analysis that are at the heart of humanities education?
In this interactive session, participants will explore how AI tools can enhance historical inquiry in K–12 classrooms. Using free classroom resources from the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, educators will engage with primary sources, inquiry-based strategies, and practical classroom applications of generative AI to support historical thinking.
Although applicable across grade levels, examples will primarily focus on middle and high school social studies and humanities classrooms. Attendees will leave with ready-to-use instructional resources, sample AI prompts, inquiry activities, and strategies for integrating AI into history instruction in ways that promote engagement, curiosity, and deeper learning.
